TA EROTIKA
Hidden doors
“There is a question that all lovers ask each other, and in it the erotic mystery is epitomized: Who are you?
A question without an answer… The senses are and are not of this world.
By means of them, poetry traces a bridge between seeing and believing.
By that bridge, imagination is embodied and bodies turn into images.”

(Octavio Paz, The double flame)
Ta erotika, the title of the sixth open call of Videosoundart, is an invitation to investigate the enigmatic and disturbing dimension of the “things of love” to which eroticism, love and sexuality, interwoven, belong. The Greek expression, stolen from Plato’s Symposium, alludes to the globality of this semantic field and the relationship between reason and folly which it puts at stake, just as the philosophical text seems to suggest, when Eros is described as a “powerful demon, a mediator between men and gods.”
The subtitle – Hidden doors – further specifies how the theme points in the direction of an investigation on those hidden thresholds of the self which open up in the erotic experience. The disturbing nature of Eros, which turns attraction to the Other into a subversive experience, is a privileged path to our internal images, to the nucleus of feelings, desires and images that the experience of love awakens. In this sense, sexuality, in being in a relationship with the Other, is revealed at one and the same time as a relationship with those parts of the self that have been repressed or forgotten and which vehemently reappear . This opens up a fertile field of exploration for artistic creation on the representation of an intimate and secret dimension: that of a familiarity that until now has remained hidden and which comes to the surface in its otherness, which while negating itself from every possibility of definition and control concerns us from closer, as something which belongs to us and that we cannot overlook.
The call encourages participants to explore this existential dimension of the erotic event, drawing on their own experiences, reflections and critical considerations but also, optionally, the attached bibliography. This includes some works which can be useful to problematize the theme in the contemporary period.
